2019 DLL Spring FEEDBACK

Parents

Good morning

My apologies for the early early email but I am catching up from a TON of email in regards to evals this week.  And I am recovering from the flu.  Bad time of year for a league president to have the flu.  Thank you JERRY RIDDLE for all your help.  Trying to coordinate nearly 400 of you in the system is an arduous task during registration and Jerry has met the challenge and learned our system to assist.  Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback and hopefully this email will answer many of your questions.

First and foremost, Challenger division - Please send me by email any challenger player that wants to play.  I am registering your child for you.  We had so many issues with the web site that I took the challenger registration down.  It prevented folks from registering for the wrong division.  I am now ready for you.  Email me or Jerry and we will get you signed up.  Coach Rich Hunter is ready for ya!!!!!  For those that do not know, the challenger division is a division for the mentally and physically handicapped.  One of Little Leagues greatest divisions

1.  Does my TBALLER need to attend evals?

NO.  You all have it made!  Set back and relax.

2.  What should my child wear to evals and what should he/she bring?

He or she will need to be dressed to play.  In other words, put some OLD baseball/softball pants on them.  Put cleats on them for traction cause I am certain it will be a little wet.  They will need their glove, a bat and a helmet (if they have one).  We will have helmets if needed.  Remember, at DLL we require a facemask for all divisions.

3.  What time should I arrive for my child's eval?

I would try to get there 30 minutes prior.  Let them stretch and throw with their buddies.  We will try to have field 2 set up to warm up

4.  What kind of bat should I buy?

Great question.  I would wait and buy a bat after your team is selected BUT if you want to go ahead, MAKE SURE YOU BUY A LITTLE LEAGUE approved bat.  It must have the USA Baseball stamp on it for baseball.  If you buy one and are not sure, leave the wrapper on it till you get to the field and find me or one of my board members.  Once you remove the wrapper it belongs to you.  You cannot take it back.

5.  When will I hear from my coach?

You will not hear from a coach until after next Saturday.  We have to do evals then draft.  Once the teams are drafted, the coaches will be cleared to contact their teams.  This goes for Tball too.  They will pick their teams last.  We have some 6 year olds registered in coach pitch and machine pitch divisions that may move down if their parents do not feel that they are ready to move into a minors division.  Waiting keeps things "cleaner" and prevents us from going back in and "undoing" things

6.  Can I change my child to another division?

We like to accommodate BUT PLEASE understand if we cannot.

In a perfect registration system, you would not sign up for a certain division but would simply sign up for either baseball, softball or tball.  Your child's evaluation and league age is what puts he/she in the appropriate division of play.

7.  Can my 5 year old play coach pitch softball or machine pitch baseball

NO.  Little League will NOT allow it.  All children must be LEAGUE AGE 6 before they can compete in a minors division.  Yes, both coach pitch and machine pitch are considered a minors division.

8.  I am not getting your emails

I have fixed 15 email addresses and counting this year.  Verify your email address.  100% of the time, that is the problem

9.  Add my spouse to the email distribution list

I do not think currently that there is a way to do that.  Only one email is allowed per account and I send all emails through the system which pulls your accounts email.  So, as a work around, have your spouse sign up as a VOLUNTEER within your child's account.  This will add them to your account and when Jerry and I put the drafted teams in the system, you will be grouped with that team and will receive communications from your team page.
I hope that this email will do (2) things.  Answer most of your questions and keep me from answering so many emails :)  Just picking.  I appreciate everyone's feedback and questions.  Communication is key in running a good league.  Without your feedback, I wouldn't know what we need to improve on.
Before I let you go, if you see one of our board members during the evals this week, make sure you stop and take the time to thank them for their service.  We are 17 strong this year and I feel this is one of the best boards that we have ever had at DLL.  They put in a lot of time to assist me with the day to day operations at the complex even when there isn't a season going on.  We have to remember that the little league season only lasts 6 months out of the year.  The other 6 months we are maintaining the facility to keep it ready for the next season.  We do this because we all have been called to do it.  We get no pay to do what we do but I can assure you, it is one of the most rewarding things that God has ever put in my life.
Thank you for your time and continued support of Davie Little League.
Good night and good morning!
